IF YOU ARE VIEWED AS A LEADER OF YOUR SCHOOL, TEAM OR TOWN, THEN YOU HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF EXPECTATION TO UPHOLD. PEOPLE LOOK UP TO LEADERS AND ADMIRE THEM. IF YOU ARE A LEADER, YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE CHOICES YOU ARE MAKING BECAUSE MAKING A BAD DECISION CAN CAUSE PEOPLE WHO LOOK UP TO YOU TO MAKE THAT SAME BAD DECISION. BE A LEADER AND DECIDE TO USE YOUR LEADERSHIP TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT.

BAYLEY REISWIG, A SENIOR AT FLINTHILLS HIGH SCHOOL IN ROSALIA, KS, SAYS ATHLETICS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO MANY STUDENTS. WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW IS THAT ACADEMICS PLAY AS GREAT A PART, IF NOT GREATER, IN THE LIVES OF TODAY’S STUDENT ATHLETES. ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS ARE KEY TO SUCCESS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. WHILE BEING ABLE TO BALANCE ACADEMICS AND ATHLETICS CAN BE STRESSFUL AT TIMES, BEING ABLE TO DO SO IS WHAT PUTS STUDENT ATHLETES IN A CALIBER OF THEIR OWN. MAKE SURE TO ALWAYS TELL STUDENT ATHLETES TO “KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.” YOUR MOTIVATION COULD HELP THEM STRIVE TO GREATER HEIGHTS.

THE TRUE MEANING OF SUCCESS IF OFTEN TIMES MEASURED BY MEDALS, RECORDS AND STATISTICS, BUT SCOTT HIRSCH, A SENIOR AT PERRY-LECOMPTON HIGH SCHOOL IN PERRY, KS REMINDS US THAT THERE IS ANOTHER MORE ACCURATE WAY TO MEASURE SUCCESS. NONE OF THOSE AWARDS WOULD’VE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT HARD EARNED EFFORT. TRUE SUCCESS IS MEASURED BY WORK. IT IS KNOWING YOU PUT IN THE WORK NECESSARY TO GET THE JOB DONE RIGHT WHEN IT COUNTS. STRIVE TO WIN, AND DO IT WITH ALL YOU’VE GOT. IF YOU DO THAT, YOU CAN’T BE ANYTHING BUT SUCCESSFUL.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

WITH BUDGET CUTS LOOMING, MANY PROPOSE DEFUNDING FINE ARTS PROGRAMS, BUT THINK OF THE HARM THIS WOULD DO TO OUR STUDENTS, SAYS PAUL PATTON, A SENIOR AT KAPAUN MT. CARMEL HIGH SCHOOL IN WICHITA, KS. FINE ARTS ARE A WONDERFUL WAY FOR TEENS TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES AND GET INVOLVED WITHOUT HAVING TO WEAR A HELMET OF PUT ON A JERSEY.
