ONE IMPORTANT ASPECT OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES IS THE LIFE SKILLS THAT THEY CAN TEACH US. ONE LIFE SKILL THAT JOSH PAYNE, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM LYNDON HIGH SCHOOL, LEARNED THROUGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES IS TEAMWORK. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR ALL STUDENTS TO WORK TOGETHER. THEY WILL NOT ONLY USE THIS SKILL IN SCHOOL, BUT THROUGHOUT LIFE.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through May 28, 2016
ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREATEST BASKETBALL PLAYERS, MICHAEL JORDAN, ONCE SAID: “TALENT WINS GAMES, BUT TEAMWORK AND INTELLIGENCE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.” ELIMINATING SELFISHNESS MAKES THE GAME MORE ENJOYABLE FOR A TEAM AS A WHOLE IN EVERY ASPECT. EMILY SCHWANT, A SENIOR AT MISSION VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN ESKRIDGE, KS, SAYS WE ALL NEED TO TAKE THE TIME TO REALIZE THERE IS NO “I” IN TEAM AND TEAMWORK IS WHAT MAKES THE DREAM WORK.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through May 28, 2016
MUSIC AND THE ARTS, MANY MAY THINK THAT THESE ARE NON-COMPETITIVE EVENTS, BUT BAILEY REISWIG, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM FLINTHILLS HIGH SCHOOL IN ROSALIA, KS, BEGS TO DIFFER. STATE MUSIC FESTIVALS, DEBATE AND FORENSICS TOURNAMENTS HAVE SOME OF THE STIFFEST COMPETITION AROUND. THEY ARE JUST AS COMPETITIVE AS FOOTBALL OR BASKETBALL. IF SPORTS AREN’T YOUR STYLE, TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT. WHETHER IT BE MUSIC, DEBATE OR FORENSICS, FINE ARTS HAS SOMETHING FOR YOU. BREAK OUT OF YOUR SHELL AND PERFORM!

COACHES HAVE HAD A GREAT IMPACT ON THE LIFE OF COLSON REAMES, A SENIOR FROM BELOIT HIGH SCHOOL. HIS COACHES HAVE BEEN ENCOURAGING AND RESPECTABLE. THEY HAVE TAUGHT HIM SPORTSMANSHIP AND THE VALUE OF HARD WORK. THAT NOTHING IS GIVEN AND EVERYTHING IS EARNED. WINNING AND LOSING WITH CLASS IS TAUGHT IN EVERY SPORT. IT’S EASY TO FORGET, BUT OTHERS WILL RESPECT YOU AND YOUR TEAM FOR PRACTICING SPORTSMANSHIP.

SPORTSMANSHIP IS SOMETHING THAT CAN CATCH THE EYE OF OTHERS, SAYS WALTER GOUDEAU, A SENIOR AT WICHITA SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL. ATHLETES SHOULD ALWAYS BE RESPECTFUL TO THEIR OPPONENTS. YES, YOU WANT TO WIN, BUT IT TAKES PRIDE TO WIN. OFFICIALS ALSO NEED RESPECT BECAUSE THEY CAN USE DISRESPECT AGAINST YOU. THEY ARE THERE SO YOU CAN PLAY THE GAME. SPORTSMANSHIP DETERMINES HOW GOOD A TEAM CAN BE.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

A LEADER IS SOMEONE THAT KNOWS THE WAY, GOES THE WAY AND SHOWS THE WAY, SAYS TAYLOR WILLIAMS, A SENIOR AT PAOLA HIGH SCHOOL. EVERYONE CAN BE A LEADER AT SOME POINT IN THEIR LIVES. WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES, WHICH HAVE A KEY ROLE IN LEADERSHIP. LET YOUR STRENGTHS GUIDE YOU AS TO WHEN IT IS YOUR TURN TO STEP UP AND BE THE LEADER, AND ALSO ACCEPT YOUR WEAKNESSES WHEN IT IS YOUR TURN TO STEP BACK AND BE THE FOLLOWER.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

PAUL PATTON, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM KAPAUN MT. CARMEL HIGH SCHOOL IN WICHITA, KS, SAYS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT GOALS TO STRIVE FOR DURING YOUR TIME IN HIGH SCHOOL. IT OPENS DOORS THAT LEAD TO LIFE LONG SUCCESS. DON’T GET DISCOURRAGED IF CLASSES ARE HARD OR YOU’RE STRUGGLING IN SCHOOL. REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND KEEP WORKING DILIGENTLY.

ONE SLOGAN THAT SCOTT HIRSCH, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM PERRY-LECOMPTON HIGH SCHOOL, OFTEN HEARD IS “SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ARE AN EXTENSION OF THE CLASSROOM.” IT WAS USED TO REMIND STUDENTS THAT THEY MUST BEHAVE APPROPRIATELY, BUT IT ALSO CAN BE TAKEN LITERALLY. SCHOOL ACTIVITIES TEACH MANY SKILLS THAT CAN IN TURN BE USED IN THE CLASSROOM. SUCH ACTIVITIES REQUIRE DEDICATION, QUICK THINKING, PRACTICE, WORKING WITH OTHERS AND FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS. THESE SKILLS AND MORE ARE BENEFICIAL TO SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM, AND THROUGH COMPETITION ARE ENRICHED, SINCE VICTORY IS VERY NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT THEM.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through May 28, 2016
RACHEL CHALUPA, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM BLUE VALLEY NORTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL IN OVERLAND PARK, KS, IS ASKING YOU TO BECOME A LEADER. BECOMING A LEADER TAKES TIME, BUT THE FIRST STEP IS TO DIFFERENTIATE YOURSELF AND STAND UP IN COURAGE FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE. WHETHER IN THE BLEACHERS, IN THE CLASSROOM, ON THE FIELD OR IN THE HALLWAYS, CONTINUE TO LEAD WITH RESPECT AND COURAGE.
