STUDENT MESSAGES

For Use Through March 14, 2015

OFFICIALS OFTEN DON’T GET THE THANKS THAT THEY DESERVE SAYS JOSH PAYNE, A SENIOR AT LYNDON HIGH SCHOOL. THEY ARE MORE OFTEN CRITICIZED AND YELLED AT, BUT WITHOUT THEM, WE COULD NOT HAVE MANY SCHOOL ACTIVITIES. THEY NOT ONLY MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE GAME AND COMPLIANCE OF THE RULES, BUT ALSO SECURE THE SAFETY OF THE STUDENTS. THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE AN OFFICIAL, GIVE THEM THE THANKS THAT THEY DESERVE.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

IT SEEMS TODAY THAT BEING A HIGH SCHOOL OFFICIAL CAN BE A VERY THANKLESS JOB. YET WITHOUT OFFICIALS, WE COULD NOT HAVE THE HIGH LEVEL OF COMPETITION AND SPORTSMANSHIP THAT WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE. ANDREW FLAX, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM WESTERN PLAINS HIGH SCHOOL IN RANSOM, KS, WOULD LIKE TO THANK OFFICIALS FOR THE INVALUABLE SERVICE THEY PROVIDE TO THE STUDENT ATHLETES IN KANSAS. CONSIDER BECOMING AN OFFICIAL YOURSELF TO ENSURE FUTURE GENERATIONS OF KANSAS ATHLETES ALSO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN A FAIR AND CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

TEAMWORK IS AN ART SAYS PAIGE PEARSON, A SENIOR AT OSAGE CITY HIGH SCHOOL. EVERYONE IN THE GROUP HAS TO BE FOCUSED ON A COMMON GOAL; AND AT THE SAME TIME, TAKE AN EQUAL SHARE OF THE WORK. HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS DEMONSTRATES THIS QUALITY EVERY DAY. TEAMMATES PUMP EACH OTHER UP AND DO THEIR PART TO REACH THE COMMON GOAL, A WIN. IF ONE PERSON DOESN’T DO THEIR JOB, IT JEOPARDIZES THE SUCCESS OF THE ENTIRE TEAM. IN OTHER WORDS, TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

THE TEAMMATES AND OPPONENTS AMBER GARVER, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM BASEHOR-LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL IN BASEHOR, KS HAD GROWING UP HAVE HAD A GREAT IMPPACT ON HER LIFE. TEAMWORK IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF SPORTS. YOU MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH OTHER PEOPLE THROUGH SPORTS AND IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU MAKE THOSE GOOD CONNECTIONS. TEAMWORK IS ALSO A WAY TO KEEP YOUR GAME SAFE. IF THE TEAM IS NOT WORKING TOGETHER, THEN THE GAME CAN TURN UNSAFE VERY QUICKLY. REMEMBER WHEN YOU ARE OUT ON THE FIELD OR ON THE COURT THIS YEAR TO THINK ABOUT NOT ONLY YOUR TEAMMATES, BUT THE OTHER TEAM AS WELL, AND WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE THAT GAME A GOOD EXPERIENCE.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

TANNER LANGVARDT, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM COUNCIL GROVE HIGH SCHOOL SAYS A FAMOUS COACH AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL ENCOURAGES HIS PLAYERS TO ADHERE TO HIS 16 GOALS TO ENSURE THEIR SUCCESS AS A TEAM. THE TOP THREE ARE COMMITMENT, UNSELFISHNESS AND UNITY. YOU CAN UTILIZE THESE THREE PRINCIPLES WHEN YOU BECOME INVOLVED IN YOUR HIGH SCHOOL’S ACTIVITIES. WITHOUT COMMITMENT, YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU ARE HEADED. A SELFISH PERSON WILL TEAR OTHERS DOWN. UNITY IS WHAT MAKES GOOD TEAMS GREAT AND WHAT LEADS TO SUCCESS FOR ALL.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

JASON RANDALL, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM LEAVENWORTH HIGH SCHOOL, THINKS IT IS IMPORTANT TO SHOW GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP. IN LIFE YOU HAVE TO TREAT PEOPLE RESPECTFULLY IN ORDER TO GET RESPECT. THE SAME GOES FOR SPORTS. PLAYERS SHOULD RESPECT THEIR OPPONENTS AND TEAMMATES. A TEAM WITH GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP IS A POWERFUL TEAM.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

RACHEL CHALUPA, A SENIOR AT BLUE VALLEY NORTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL IN OVERLAND PARK, KS, SAYS THAT HIGH SCHOOL RIVALRIES ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN. WHILE IN COMPETITION, OUR EMOTIONS AS PARTICIPANTS AND SPECTATORS TEND TO BE HIGH STRUNG AND FLUCUATING. BETWEEN THESE EMOTIONS, SPORTSMANSHIP IS OFTEN HARD TO FIND, BUT IS A CRUCIAL PART OF KANSAS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES. NEVER FORGET TO RESPECT AND APPRECIATE OUR OFFICIALS AS WELL AS OPPOSING FANS, PLAYERS AND COACHES. DON’T BE AFRAID TO LEND A KIND WORD TO THE COMPETITION.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

SPORTSMANSHIP CAN BE DEFINED AS FAIRNESS IN FOLLOWING THE RULES OF THE GAME, BUT IT’S MORE THAN THAT, SAYS CARLY JACKSON, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM JAYHAWK-LINN HIGH SCHOOL IN MOUND CITY, KS. SPORTSMANSHIP IS ABOUT RESPECT FOR YOUR OPPONENT, THE OFFICIALS AND SPECTATORS. WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOSE, REMEMBER TO BE GRACIOUS.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

SPORTSMANSHIP HAS BECOME A LOST ART TO MANY SPECTATORS AND ATHLETES ALIKE, SAYS BAYLEY REISWIG, A SENIOR AT FLINTHILLS HIGH SCHOOL IN ROSALIA, KS. IT TAKES A GREAT DEAL OF CHARACTER TO SMILE AT YOUR OPPONENT AND TELL THEM “GOOD GAME” AFTER A DEVASTATING LOSS. NO MATTER THE SITUATION OR THE SCORE, SPORTSMANSHIP MUST ALWAYS TAKE PRESIDENCE OVER ANYTHING THAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED ON THE COURT OR FIELD. SOMEONE IS ALWAYS WATCHING AND THEY CAN TELL HOW MUCH CHARACTER YOU HAVE BY THE WAY YOU ACT IN GAME SITUATIONS.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

SCOTT HIRSCH, A SENIOR AT PERRY-LECOMPTON HIGH SCHOOL IN PERRY, KS, WOULD LIKE TO REMIND US TO BE GOOD SPORTS WHILE WATCHING OR PARTICIPATING IN COMPETITIONS. IF WE ALL WOULD CHEER FOR SUCCESSES AND TAKE A DEEP BREATH WHEN THINGS GO WRONG, THEN EVERYONE WILL BE ABLE TO PERFORM TO THE BEST OF THEIR ABILITY. STUDIES SHOW THAT WHEN YOU’RE ANGRY, IT IS HARDER TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS. NOT MAKING THE RIGHT DECISIONS CAN BE CATASTROPHIC IN COMPETITION, SO FOR YOUR SAKE AND THE SAKE OF OTHERS, BE A GOOD SPORT.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

A GREAT SCHOLAR’S BOWL COACH ONE TOLD PAUL PATTON, A SENIOR AT KAPAUN MT. CARMEL HIGH SCHOOL IN WICHITA, KS, THAT, “NO MATTER HOW WELL WE DO TODAY, YOU WILL ALL BE PREPARED FOR SUCCESS IN YOUR LIVES.” PARTICIPATION IN KSHSAA SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES HELPS LEAD TO STUDENT SUCCESS IN ALL FACETS OF LIFE, PLUS, THEY’RE LOTS OF FUN!

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through March 14, 2015

JACLYN SELLS, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM LANSING HIGH SCHOOL SAYS THAT WIN OR LOSE, YOU MUST ALWAYS HAVE PRIDE IN YOUR TEAM AND CONVEY SPIRIT IN A CLASSY WAY. RESPECT YOUR PEERS, COACHES AND OFFICIALS. EACH TIME YOU COMPETE, YOU NOT ONLY REPRESENT YOURSELF, YOU REPRESENT YOUR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY. PEOPLE DON’T ALWAYS REMEMBER THE SCORE, BUT THEY WILL REMEMBER THE ACTIONS DISPLAYED.
