STUDENT MESSAGES

For Use Through March 13, 2021

TANNA CUNNINGHAM, A SENIOR AT LAKESIDE HIGH SCHOOL IN DOWNS, KS, SAYS BUILDING FRIENDSHIPS IS AN EASY WAY TO REDUCE STRESS AND INCREASE HAPPINESS. PARTICIPATING IN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND SPORTS IS A GREAT WAY TO MEET NEW PEOPLE. WHETHER AT AN ART SHOW, A BASKETBALL GAME OR EVEN AN FFA CONFERENCE, THERE ARE COUNTLESS DIFFERENT SOCIAL OPPORTUNITES FOR LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE TO MEET AND BECOME FRIENDS.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

IT'S THE LAST MOMENTS OF A GAME AND THE OPPOSING TEAM IS ABOUT TO SCORE. THE TEAM SCORES AND THE ENTIRE CROWD ERUPS INTO A CHANT OF BOOING. THIS SCENARIO HAS BECOME MUCH TOO COMMON AT HIGH SCHOOL SPORTING EVENTS SAYS KYRA BLOSSER, A SENIOR AT COUNCIL GROVE HIGH SCHOOL. RATHER THAN FOLLOWING THE STATUS QUO, MAKE A POINT TO HAVE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP ON AND OFF THE FIELD. BEING COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL DURING GAMES SETS A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR EVERYONE AROUND YOU, WHETHER IT BE A FAN OR THE STAR PLAYER. REMEMBER TO EXERCISE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AT YOUR NEXT SCHOOL SPORTING EVENT.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

CALVIN HEIT, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM TOPEKA HIGH SCHOOL, SAYS ONE OF THE CORE VALUES OF THE KSHSAA IS TO PROMOTE SPORTSMANSHIP AND RESPECT BOTH ON AND OFF THE FIELD. WHETHER YOU ARE A PLAYER, COACH, PARENT OR SPECTATOR, PLEAE REFRAIN FROM USING NEGATIVE LANGUAGE AND HELP ENCOURAGE A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT AT ALL GAMES AND EVENTS.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

SAMANTHA MOBURG, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM LANSING HIGH SCHOOL, PARTICIPATED IN MANY DIFFERENT SPORTS. ALTHOUGH THESE SPORTS REQUIRED DIFFERENT TYPES OF SKILLS AND QUALITIES, ONE QUALITY THAT IS ALWAYS CONSTANT IS SPORTSMANSHIP. GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP SHOULD BE EVIDENT IN EVERY ACTIVITY, NO MATTER THE CONDITIONS. WHEN PARTICIPATING IN AN ACTIVITIY AT YOUR HIGH SCHOOL, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP BECAUSE YOU ARE REPRESENTING NOT ONLY YOUR SCHOOL BUT ALSO YOUR SURROUNDING COMMUNITY. WE SHOULD ALL STRIVE TO HAVE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP BECAUSE IT MAKES PARTICIPATING IN THE THINGS WE LOVE MORE ENJOYABLE.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

HOUSTON FRIEND, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM SATANTA HIGH SCHOOL, SAYS OFFICIALS ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT WHEN IT COMES TO ATHLETICS. THEY KEEP THE GAME RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND ULTIMATELY KEEP THE PARTICIPANTS SAFE. OFFICIALS WILL OCCASSIONALLY MISS CALLS, BUT THAT IS PART OF THE GAME. REMEMBER, THEY ARE HUMAN TOO! WE NEED TO THANK OFFICIALS FOR DOING THEIR JOB AND FOR THEIR SACRIFICES BECAUSE WITHOUT THEM, WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COMPETE. SO DON’T FORGET TO THANK YOUR OFFICIALS!

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

JOEY LANGSTRAAT, A SENIOR AT BASEHOR-LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL IN BASEHOR, KS, HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN SPORTS SINCE HE WAS VERY LITTLE AND SAYS SOMETHING THAT ALWAYS MAKES THE GAME OR MATCH MORE ENJOYABLE IS SPORTMANSHIP. AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE POINT OF SPORTS IS TO ENJOY YOURSELVES AND MEET NEW PEOPLE. RESPECT TO THE GAME AND YOUR PEERS IS SOMETHING THAT IS IMPORTANT AND SHOULD BE PRESENT NO MATTER THE ACTIVITY.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

MALLORY KUESER, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM OLPE HIGH SCHOOL SAYS ATHLETES, COACHES AND FANS ARE WHAT COME TO MIND WHEN TALKING ABOUT A SPORTING EVENT, BUT THERE IS ANOTHER TYPE OF SPECIAL PERSON THAT IS VITAL TO THE EVENT; THEY ARE THE OFFICIALS. WITHOUT OFFICIALS, WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE PART IN OR WATCH THE COMPETITIVE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES WE LOVE AND ENJOY. WHETHER YOU ARE A SPECTATOR, COACH OR AHTLETE, TAKE TIME TO THANK AN OFFICIAL. IT MAY SEEM LIKE ONLY A LITTLE ACT OF KINDNESS, BUT LITTLE ACTS OF KINDNESS GO A LONG WAY.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.
