Kansas Student Council Association
STUDENT COUNCIL
SUMMER LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP

Purpose

Student Council Leadership Workshop provides students the opportunities to meet and exchange ideas with other student council members, learn about student council issues, and discover their own leadership potential which will help to build a better world in which to live.

The Student Council Leadership Workshop also offers a special Advisor's Council for any advisor wishing to attend. Special sessions are held daily with the advisor's council to network with each other and share ideas, as well as learn new ones.

Student Council Workshop has been rated as one of the best leadership training programs in the state. Some of the ideas that workshop delegates learn include goal setting, organization skills, communication skills, meeting skills, leadership skills and many other leadership techniques.

The Staff

A staff of fifteen highly energetic and enthusiastic advisors from around the state serve as senior counselors for the annual workshop. Combined years of experience working with student council activities totals over 250 years for the senior staff! In addition to the senior staff, fourteen recently graduated high school seniors serve in the coveted role of junior counselor. Coupled with the administrative staff, the total staff totals thirty-eight.

2009 Workshop Site and Dates

Student Council Leadership Workshop is held at Emporia State University, 1200 Commercial Road, Emporia, KS. The dates for Student Council Leadership Workshop are Sunday, July 19 through Friday, July 24. Delegates register on Sunday between 12:30 and 2:30 PM. Workshop concludes on Friday at noon.

Who Can Attend

Any high school student (grade 9-12) and any high school or junior high advisor wishing to attend may do so with their sponsor's/administration's approval. Because of its popularity, the workshop is limited to four delegates from each school. (However, more spaces are available if the registration numbers are not filled after the May 15 deadline.) It is important to involve as many different students as possible in this "once in a lifetime" experience!

Students who have previously attended the workshop MAY attend a second time and be a part of the "advanced workshop" which highlights advanced topics in student leadership.

Any number of advisors from middle/junior high and senior high schools may attend.
