2007-2008 Kansas High School Advisor of the Year

After reviewing several applications, the Advisor of the Year Selection Committee chose Tonia Stoehr from Derby High School to serve as the Kansas High School Student Council Advisor of the Year for 2007-2008.

Tonia is in her sixth year as student council sponsor and in her eleventh year of education as the high school social worker. While under her direction, the Derby High School student council organizes an annual blood drive, homecoming parade, winter Olympics, senior citizen prom, “lunch lady” day and penny wars.  Additionally, Derby High School has a strong program for senior greeters integrating senior citizens from the community into the school.

Tonia has hosted league and regional student council conferences and been an annual attendee to the KSHSAA Summer Leadership Workshop since 2002.  She has presented advisor workshops at the Kansas advisors conference, as well as presented on the national level for the past few years at LEAD & NASC conferences. Tonia has helped her student council in Derby to be named as National Council of Excellence for the past two years.

Tonia’s principal proclaims that she is an individual whose attributes make her an exceptional advocate for students.  Her students state that Tonia’s passion for student leadership empowers them to lead by her examples of guiding them to the resources needed to make their goals a reality.

Tonia is now in the running for the Region VI and National Student Council Advisor Award.  Congratulations and best of luck to Tonia!
