NEW FOR 2010-11

STATE TOURNAMENT –BY CLASSIFICATION, NOT GENDER

Based on feedback from participating schools, KSHSAA Bowling Administrator Cheryl Gleason recommended the Board consider approving a change in the format of the state tournament. Following discussion, the Executive Board voted unanimously to approve the following format for the 2010-11 state bowling tournament to be held next March. Class 5-1A girls compete Thursday AM, followed by 5-1A boys in PM; Class 6A girls compete Friday AM, followed by 6A boys in PM. There will be four separately ticketed sessions for each division of the tournament as has been past practice. This change will allow schools to travel one day to the state tournament and facilitate boys and girls competing on the same day in each classification. It was also noted many schools employ the same individual to coach both the boys and the girls teams and this will allow more efficient use of the coaches’ time.

TOP 4 SCORES VS. SERIES

In post-season competition, the top four (4) scores in each game will be used to determine a team’s match score instead of the top four series

Rationale:

• Allows more athletes the opportunity to contribute to the teams totals.
• Allow athletes to remain motivated after a bad game
• Allows coaches & spectators to know the team standing after each game.
• Will raise team scores, thus adding to the excitement.
