ATTIRE
Participants may not wear jeans in competition.
COMPETITION AREA
Only the bowlers who are in the line-up and are currently competing are allowed in settee area. Bowlers shall not consume food during competition.
Coaches shall remain seated in the settee area during competition except to:
- Stand to greet a bowler who has finished a frame & is returning to be seated
- Spontaneously react to an outstanding play by a member of their team
- Attend an injured bowler
- Move to an adjacent lane settee area
Non-playing bowlers shall remain seated in the settee area during competition except to:
- Spontaneously react to an outstanding play by a member of their team
- Stand to greet a bowler who is returning to the settee area, then immediately sit down
Excessive standing in the settee area by coaches or bowlers is not permitted (see Sportsmanship/Conduct section, page 17).
SPORTSMANSHIP/CONDUCT
Good sportsmanship for bowlers and coaches is a must. Good sportsmanship is defined as those qualities of behavior which are characterized by generosity and genuine concern for others. Further, an awareness is expected of the impact of an individual’s influence on the behavior of others. Taunting, profanity and intimidating conduct (such as team crowding) is not allowed. All actions should be for, not against; positive, not negative or disrespectful.
CONDUCT: BOWLERS, COACHES & TEAM MANAGERS
Unsporting conduct for a coach, bowler or team manager includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Use of disconcerting acts or words when an opponent is about to bowl
- Disrespectfully addressing, baiting, taunting anyone involved in the contest
- Acts of deceit, disrespect, vulgarity and profanity
- The use of intimidating conduct (team crowding)
- Holding unauthorized conferences
- Illegally leaving the designated settee area during competition
- Excessive standing in the settee area (see Competition Area, page 16)
All KSHSAA regulations regarding sportsmanship and conduct will be followed.
ADMISSION
KSHSAA post-season bowling ticket prices are:
Regional Tournaments: Adults -$4; Grades K-12-$3
State Tournaments: Adults - $6; Grades K-12 - $5
NOTE: When more than one tournament is conducted at the same site, each will require a separate ticket.
PASSGATE / PASSES
Only those individuals listed on the school pass gate are to be admitted at no charge to the tournament. Complimentary passes honored include: News Media; KSHSAA Complimentary Lifetime Pass; KSHSAA Annual Complimentary Pass; Certified Athletic Trainer.
NOTE: Teams competing on one day may be admitted at the tournament site on the other day if accompanied by their coach.
LANE ASSIGNMENTS
Lane assignments for the state tournaments will be made by the KSHSAA. Teams will be placed according to regional finish. Example: In Class 6A (3 regional tournaments qualifying the top three teams), the 3 Regional Champion teams will be placed in the middle of the center, the 3 second place teams will be placed to their right and the 3 third place teams will be placed to the left of the regional champions. Coaches from the qualifying teams will determine the order of their bowlers. Within each pod of 6 lanes, those bowlers designated as 1 and 2 will be assigned to the left side lanes; bowlers 3 and 4 will be placed in the middle lanes; and bowlers 5 and 6 will be assigned to the right side lanes. The 18 individual bowlers will be assigned to a pod of 6 lanes. The 6 bowlers with the highest regional scores will be placed in the center lanes; the bowlers with the next 6 highest regional scores will be placed to their right and the bowlers with the lowest 6 scores will be placed to the left of the top individual bowlers. NOTE: Schools qualifying more than one individual bowler will be not be placed together unless their scores allow.
TRY-OUTS
Try-outs for high school bowling may be conducted using the following guidelines:
- Try-outs may begin on the Monday following Thanksgiving.
- Try-outs may be one week in length.
- Try-outs may not be conducted during the KSHSAA Holiday Non-practice dates of December 23-27.
- 4. Students must have a physical examination in order to try-out. They will need a PPE (physical exam) on file in the school office prior to their first day of school try-outs.
HEAD COACH TEST
The KSHSAA Executive Board voted to require all Head Bowling Coaches to take an open-book test over the contents of the Bowling Manual and score 90% or better. Failure to submit answers by the due date = $25 fine to the school.
Bowling Manuals and the Coaches Exam will be mailed to participating school athletic directors in early October.
