OFFICIALS-ON LINE REGISTRATION TURNED OFF NOVEMBER 13
Officials wanting to register on-line must do so before November 13, 2009. After that date the online option for registration will no longer be available. You will be able to mail in your registration provided you have attended a rules meeting. You cannot view the online rules meeting until your registration has been received and processed.
COACHES – OFF SEASON CONDITIONING
Off-Season conditioning can be offered to students who are not currently out for an activity. It must be supervised by someone the school administration has approved. There is NO sport specific instruction and NO balls may be used during off-season conditioning. See pages 7-8 of the September Activities Journal for more information. Off season conditioning CANNOT take place during another practice and cannot be supervised by a coach who is holding another practice in the gym. It is separate from practices, and must be announced to the student body as being open to anyone not currently out for a sport.
COACHES-OPEN GYMS
Open gyms must be announced as an open gym by the school administration – open to any students in that school – HS (grades 9-12) JH (grades 7-8). Open gyms are NOT off season conditioning. The open gym CANNOT be supervised by a basketball coach (head or assistant) if basketball is being played or shot. A HS open gym cannot be held in conjunction with a practice for say a Jr. High team. It is scheduled separately and monitored by someone other than a HS coach if it is for HS kids. See the October Activities Journal page 7-8 for additional information.
COACHES-BUFFER WEEK-HIGH SCHOOL
During Buffer week (Nov.9-15, 2009) no off season conditioning or open gyms are permitted. See page 5 of the October Activities Journal for more interpretations. Gymnasiums shall not be open to the students during the Fall Athletic Buffer Week for the purpose of shooting baskets, working out with weights, etc., outside of school hours. Noon hour and physical education classes are considered part of the school day.
December 23-27, 2009 are non practice days and no one can be in the gym during these days. There shall be no interschool activities, there shall be no staff members present of any interscholastic activities, there shall be no staff members present for any interscholastic activity practice in activities under the jurisdiction of the KSHSAA.
TEST ANSWERS DUE BY TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24
All head coaches (HS/MS) and KSHSAA registered officials are required to take the 2009-10 NFHS Basketball Rules exam. Answers are to be submitted on-line per instructions accompanying the exam and are due NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24. The 100 question NFHS test was mailed to all school Athletic Directors on September 15, 2009. Officials receive the test in their packet with the rule books.
ON-LINE RULE MEETING OPTION
All head coaches (HS/MS) and KSHSAA registered officials have the option to attend a face to face rule meeting or complete the rule meeting requirement on-line. The on-line meeting can be accessed by logging on as the school coach using the school coach password and ID and clicking on Exams and On-line meetings at the top of the page. Officials may access the on-line meeting by logging on as an official an clicking on basketball under sports registered in, along the right hand side under On-Line meetings – click on open to launch the meeting.
