| Breast Cancer Awareness Nights
The KSHSAA has received several inquires about schools having “Think Pink” nights or other activities to increase breast cancer awareness. The KSHSAA will not approve playing a Varsity game with a pink basketball. Some schools have requested wearing pink jersey’s instead of white at one home game. These requests will be handled by the KSHSAA on an individual basis with the schools involved. NFHS playing rules do not allow pink jersey’s to be worn as home uniforms without an exception letter from the state association. Players may not keep the pink uniforms unless they are purchased by the player. Wearing of pink wrist bands and headbands would also need to be approved by the KSHSAA for Varsity games. Players could wear pink shoelaces, shoes, warm up shirts and have pink towels on the sideline without KSHSAA approval. If you have questions about an activity your school is planning during basketball contact Francine Martin.
Calling for a Cure - Officials
Kansas is giving officials the opportunity to participate in a national movement called “Calling for a Cure”. The dates officials may use a pink whistle for games the week of January 25-30, 2010.
This is completely optional, but many officials have requested the opportunity. To order the pink whistles go to (www.foundationsresoucegroup.com) and order a Pink Fox 40 whistle. The intent is that officials will voluntarily donate a portion of their game checks this week to cancer research. More information can be located on the Foundations Resource Group web-site.
